THE MENTAL HEALTH REGISTER

I have suffered with Depression for many years, mainly due to long term medical conditions, crohns disease, which can cause severe diarrhea, and constant abdominal pain.

I also have a hiatus hernia, which causes daily symptoms of gastric pain, sometimes so severe that i have to go to bed with a hot water bottle, when all the symptoms are on going, i get severely depressed due to long term constant pain.

My job as a BTTA nurse within the NHS i have, suffered due to long term sickness absences.

Over the years my GP has managed my depression with drugs, like Dothiepin, and very numerous anti depressant drugs.

I have had rather a difficult year, due to constant abdominal pain, which has now revealed adhesion’s of the bowel, i have been on morphine and unable to work.

About a month ago i received a letter from somebody introducing herself as Sarah, she introduced herself in the letter saying that she was the new mental health facilitator for my GP surgery and was inviting me to the surgery for a yearly mental health review.

I was some what bemused by the letter, because by GP had never mentioned anything about this matter, and i was some what angry, as to who had referred me to this Woman.

My GP said that it was a new Government directive, and to take the issue up with the health minister.

I was some what bemused as to where the data had come from, and was concerned that my GP had referred me to this Woman, without my prior knowledge.

The issue from his point of view was not a problem, and he suggested that i must attend, even though the letter, said it was an invitation to attend.

Nobody knew where Sarah was based or what PCT trust she worked for, i spoke of my concerns to the GP receptionist, who said that she didn't have a telephone number to contact Sarah, one telephone call stated that this lady had not worked in that premises for two years.

I reluctantly turned up for a consultation with her this afternoon, i felt very nervous about talking to somebody that i didn’t know.

Due to the lack of transparency of where she came from i issued her with a data protection letter for copies of files or data that her Department held about me, i gave her the letter, and said that she would have the mandatory 40 days to comply.

I felt that she was quite agitated with my request, and stated that she and her department held nothing about me on file, although she was writing brief notes, she said the data would be entered onto the computer and all data would be confidential.

She gave me a booklet to read, she was very nice really, but it was what i read in the brochure on the way home.

The statement said  Every one on the mental health register would be offered an appointment for an annual mental health review, with a facilitator attached to the surgery.

So it looks like i am on a mental health register that i knew nothing about, i rang her and told her that i was very angry, she assured me that there was nothing to worry about, and nothing would show up on any other hospital documents.

I am so pleased that i served her with a data protection request, and i will be taking the issue up with my GP on Monday, about getting my name removed from the register.

The booklet mentioned Social Services input for seriously depressed patients.

I worry for you all with the personality disorder thing, and the removal of children by such.

WE HAD A CHILD PROTECTION REGISTER AND SOME CLIENTS DIDNT KNOW THEIR NAMES WHERE ON IT, NOW BIG BROTHER IS AT IT AGAIN I WILL NOT BE QUIET UNTIL MY NAME IS REMOVED, MORE MEETINGS WITH MPS AND PCT I THINK.

AS ANYBODY ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS? MENTAL HEALTH IS STILL TABOO.

This register has made me feel like nothing on earth, and i feel is a veil of secrecy.
I am glad i was called for a review, otherwise i would of never of known, what the mental health register means.
With reference to the secret family courts this lot could be used against you, as we know that anyway.
Heavens knows what my GP Practice have on file about me.

WHAT IS A MENTAL HEALTH FACILLITATOR

Mental health facilitators come from a variety of disciplines , namely nursing, Occupational therapy, and Social Work.

We can offer evidence based assessments and interventions in order to provide a holistic service

FROM THEIR OWN BOOKLET CALLED GOOD THINKING.

I know all GP Surgeries have a register of all those patient that have mental health problems, i am not sure how it works. but i am sure going to find out, she said that it would not show up on any other Hospital medical notes, again i am not sure about that, i supposed to have gone to work for the first time since December, and with the stigma of yesterday, i just cant face the work prospect.
