Child care is protective for children with depressed mothers

MY THOUGHTS

In the UK depression or bipolar is put against the Mother, and children are often removed into care for this reason, and has happened a few times with reference to the PAIN caseload.

There is a National mental health register in the UK, the problem is individuals do not know they are on such a register, i only found this out because i was called to my GP surgery for an annual review, to be seen by somebody called the mental health facilitator, on leaving she gave me a booklet, the booklet revealed that my name was on the mental health register.

I took the issue up with my GP, i stated that there was lack of transparency, and that he should of mentioned to me that i was on the register.

I managed to research the subject and found out that patients that suffered from severe depression, and were schizophrenic were automatically placed on the register, and there was no appeal, in other words patients would be on such a register for life.

My concerns were that such details would be placed on my occupational health notes at work, which would be a stigma.

My GP stated that i had over reacted and that being registered had not stopped me getting a passport or jobs or insurances.

I had a word with a PAIN SOLICITOR, who researched the issue over the past weekend, and mentioned that my GP should of asked if he could place me on the register.

I will be taking this issue up with my GP tomorrow, and will be asking for my name to be removed from the register, and the Solicitor will be advising me accordingly about legal action to have my name removed.

Such registration with reference to child protection issues could go against Parents, and with the present labeling of mothers with MSBP in order to take their children into care, the mental health register will just exacerbate the situation.
