MY THOUGHTS
All newly qualified Social Workers should be given at least a six month probationary period, like newly qualified Nurses.
They should be mentored, and should not be allowed to be put out on the front line child protection duties until they have proved their competence to practice safely, via various assessments
Newly qualified nurses have to go through many assesments to prove that they are fit to practice independently, constant drug assesments, iv training, and have a booklet to be signed for each assessment, to prove competence.
It just shows how things end up in tragedy, resulting in Local Authority failings, vulnerable children being left at risk, with Social Work assistants doing jobs that they are not qualified to perform re, Initial and core assessments.
The same with newly qualified Social Workers, putting them straight out on front line child protection duties, is ,and has been a disaster waiting to happen, to late when the horse has bolted, requiring another serious case review.
