Why we are doing this?

We are looking at what services we need in Leicester for children, young people and their parents and carers. We have some ideas about what these services are as we are told by Government about some of the services that we have to provide. We need your help to decide whether our ideas are right or wrong.

Who we are asking?

Children, young people, parents, carers, providers of services, the general public and any other interested parties in Leicester. We are asking these questions on-line and in some face to face sessions with all of these groups.

Details:-

What services are we talking to people about?

We are looking at what services the Council and its partners should fund for children, young people and their parents and carers. We are looking at ages 0-19 and some services that women could use when they are pregnant. We are looking at services that all children and young people may use (e.g. universal services such as schools) and services that only some people may use (e.g. targeted services such as a social worker). We are not looking at health services at the moment.

The list of services that the Council has to provide and the ones we think we need to provide are on the
Core Offer. If you complete this consultation we will ask you questions about whether you think this list is right or not.

Why is this work being done?

We need to know what services are needed by children and young people in Leicester. This will help us spend our money more effectively. We have less money to spend on services this year than we did last year. We need to spend less money and spend what we do have in the best way. This is why we are talking to you – we need your views on what is needed in Leicester and how important each of these things is. More information about this consultation can be found on the frequently asked questions sheet

What will happen with the answers you give?

Your answers will be looked at with all the answers that other people give us. We will look at all of these and use them to work out what services are most helpful and should be prioritised. Your answers and ideas may result in changes to the list of things we offer to families. Where lots of people want to make a change, we will want to consider these changes. Where there is disagreement or only a few people would like to make changes, we will need to think and talk about what to do so we are as fair as possible to everyone involved. This may mean that we will not nescessarily make all the changes that you ask for.

Who will decide what services are provided?

The decisions about what is and isn’t contained in the final list will be made by the City Council under its new Constitution.
