COVENTRY SOCIAL SERVICES UNDER SCRUTINY SOCIAL WORKER STRUCK OFF -PAIN COVENTRY CASE JUDGEMENT OUT TOMORROW

Coventry social worker acccused of making childcare errors

A COVENTRY social worker could be struck off after being accused of making a string of errors looking after children in the city.

Ngozi Agzebe has also been accused of having two separate full-time jobs for more than three years.

She was working for Coventry’s Social Services department and the charity NCH – now called Action For Children – between June 2004 and September 2007.

Neither employer was aware of her other job.

At the same time she stands accused of making a host of errors, including failing to check if a child had been fed and failing to record events in log books.

A hearing began yesterday into Mrs Agzebe’s conduct at the General Social Care Council in London.

At the end of proceedings she could be struck off, suspended, have an “admonishment” placed on her record, or be cleared.

A spokesman for the General Social Care Council confirmed that for Mrs Agzebe to be struck off “strong evidence” would have to be put forward proving she acted in the way alleged.

A document outlining the allegations against Mrs Agzebe states that neither Coventry Social Services or Action for Children were aware that she was doing two full-time jobs, contravening their HR policies.

But while she was attempting to manage both she was accused of two misdemeanours on an evening in 2006, which the GSCC say failed to appropriately safeguard a young child, known only as “A”.

The other blemishes on her record were made between July 2004 and April 2006, while she was employed by Action For Children.

They say she made ten errors in total.

These included failing to keep files and paperwork properly up to date and failing to fill in log books; failing to record medication accurately; failing to discuss concerns over parents’ actions and failing to visit a
child.
