Fostering stocktake recommends national register

If Local Authority's used the Kiincare Clause, by placing Children with an immediate Family Member such as Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles, there would be no need for this Register.

Social Services have a mandatory obligation to consider using this clause, before Foster Care is ever considered.

But they nearly always use the more expensive option, costing thousands at the Tax Payers expense.

The Special Guardianship and kincare option would cause less trauma for the Child as well.

But the big negative of this is that Grandparents or other Family Members are not given the great big incentive for this, because Foster Carers can be paid up to £600 per child a week for each Child, when kincarers just get the basic amount of money and leads them to genuine financial hardship.

Family Members should be given as much money as a normal Foster Carer, and one of our Solicitors that represents our Service Users has been very successful at getting larger amounts of money for the kincare clause.
