The Volunteers and their experience

Alison Stevens

Alison Stevens is our Chairperson and was part of the original PAIN organisation. During the late 1980s Alison faced the loss of her own children after wrongly being accused of harming her son. It had transpired that her son was suffering from brittle bones disease and that she had not caused injuries to her son. Luckily Alison managed to keep her children. Alison, felt that without the help and support given to her from PAIN that she would not be with us today. Since then Alison has campaigned tirelessly on behalf of families and lobbying MPs. She has done radio and TV interviews.

Chris Smith

Chris Smith is the Secretary of our group. Chris became involved when he too was caught in care proceedings. He sadly lost his sons through adoption. Chris became so incensed by his treatment from professionals, both social workers and medical practitioners, including family assessment centres that he became involved with the group. Chris spent much of his own personal money trying to establish our website and lifting the group. He has campaigned tirelessly since joining us in 2003 and as a result has increased much media attention including several major articles written in the Daily Telegraph. This has resulted in one county having a full investigation into their procedures.

Trevor Jones

Trevor Jones became involved as the result of a personal friend losing her children to permanent care with no direct access to the children. In this particular case one professional wrote “the house is cluttered with too many books”. You could argue better than none at all!!!! Trevor became so appalled by this horrendous treatment of his friend and her family that he embarked on investigating the methods used by social services. He has committed immeasurable man hours in highlighting many deficiencies and asking difficult questions of Social Services with many of his letters published in both local and national Press. He is currently involved on the campaign side of PAIN highlighting the problems within the present child protection system with letters published in The Times, Daily Telegraph, Guardian, Observer, Sunday Telegraph and many local and regional papers. He has written PAIN submissions to recent government consultations and was instrumental in co-ordinating a multi organisational response to the Child Care Proceedings Review in November 2005.

Jack Frost

Jack became involved after his family were accused fabricating his youngest daughters illnesses. It was only because Jack, through his diligence and some luck that they kept their daughter. They managed to prove a lie within the court arena and thus the case was dropped. Notwithstanding, Jack has worked with no respite and at great cost to him personally in proving and discrediting local authorities. Jack is the Author of “The Gulag of the Family Court”, a very powerful read. We suggest you buy a copy and it is available from Amazon and plus many other outlets. Although Jack is not solely involved in PAIN, he has helped with many cases we have referred and has assisted us where possible.
