While Foster Carers can earn up to £500 a week per Child, Grandparents taking on a Special Guardianship or Kincare role, Family Members that take on the Kincare role under Public Law Care Proceedings, are left to suffer genuinel financial hardship.
The former can lead to breakdown , thus Children are then placed into Foster Care, payed for at the tax payers expense.
Grandparents or Relatives that wish to take on a special Guardianship or the caring for the child under Public Law Care Proceedings, may get Legal aid, but it is means tested..
Local Authority's are obligated to consider using the kincare clause before placing children into Foster Care, but often this clause is very rarely used.
One of our Solicitors that advocates for Grandparents, Nigel Priestley has been very successful with CASES where Grandparents have been granted the same amount of money that Foster Carers are paid.
