As children go back to school, if you are sharing care, I hope the
summer has run smoothly in negotiating summer time tables and new
school routines.
If not, look out for our Facebook group, and all the new research we've added to our web site which we hope will help you if you're involved in court proceedings.
Most of this research is from Australia, where Shared Care legislation
has been a disaster for many vulnerable women and children.
If you have a question you'd like to ask a solicitor for free, in confidence, drop us a line at ask@maypole.org.uk.
The experiences Behind allegations of domestic violence
New research has found significant differences in women and men's experiences of abuse. Women
reported physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, verbal, social
(isolating the victim), financial and oppressive control of many
aspects of their lives, with ‘changeover’ times providing opportunities
for further violence.
Men did not report continuing violence
after separation to the same extent, nor fear of their ex partner or
fears for their children’s safety, or feelings of powerlessness in the
same way.
Instead, men were more concerned about obstructions to access to their
children and false allegations of family violence and saw these as
expressions of violence.

Maypole E News
September 2010
Social forum
For those who joined our Social forum, remember it is now (sadly) closed, due to the hosts asking for a fee.
We are aiming to open a new one next year that is specially designed
for us. In the meantime, if you would like to contact anyone at
Maypole, please E mail ask@maypole.org.uk.
(Please note too that any E mails sent on the forum just before it
closed cannot be answered, so please try again on the above E mail.)
The above article (one of many) in the national media last month shows
that fathers' stories are often the only stories heard by those without
personal experience of separation and divorce.
It is really important that mothers' stories are heard too, so that the
Government's Review of family law can find solutions that protect
vulnerable women and children.
Every voice counts, so don't delay in telling the Government what you think. The on line questionnaire
closes on Thursday, 30th September. It is quite long, but you can skip
questions that don't appeal and just complete the ones you feel
passionate about.
You can see a preview of the questions here, and can also send in your answers by E mail.
