Four are understood to involve child deaths.
Serious case reviews are only usually carried out when there has been a death.
However, they can be ordered when injuries sustained are serious, like in the case of Baby B.
The reviews are designed to look at what went wrong in the lead-up to the death and to examine how the system could be improved in future.
Only a summary of the review can be made public.
This will not be the case in future. New Government guidance says full reports for serious case reviews started after June 10 must be published.
The Baby B review was started in March 2009.
The full document is circulated to all the agencies involved in child welfare, including local authorities, the police and the health service.
The review was carried out by Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Local Safeguarding Children B....
Children's charities have been critical of reviews in the past. The NSPCC has said reviews were important but often did not say clearly enough what went wrong.
