Surrey Social Services Department and their total disregard to protect vulnerable children is not just a problem in One County, but is a common dilemma within Local Authority’s up and down the UK.
Two family support workers are placed on front line child protection duties by carrying out assessments without even being given the opportunity to take part in a mandatory induction training, which would have given them some incite into risk assessments and other major protocol into their duties involving the most vulnerable in our Society children.
A 15 year old boy was told he could possibly face the night sleeping on a park bench after his foster care placement broke down, the Social Workers lack of concern and admitting defeat after she was informed of this predicament beggar’s belief.
A Social Worker sits with her feet up on a desk eating a packet of crisps and admits that she enjoyed her job with regards to filling in reports, but hated visiting families, her reports could be full of inaccuracies, especially if the children’s names were on the child protection register.
A family support worker was given a job, of assessing a family, prior to a child protection investigation taking place, his knowledge about protocol and the appropriate paper work to fill in, was next to none.
Surrey also admitted to giving misleading data and statistics to gratify their star status.
And these are the so called professionals that are supposed to protect our children.
200 cases are dropped, so the LA could have the manpower to protect the most vulnerable children.
The question is should these cases of been instigated at all? Wasting millions of the tax payer’s money, it costs up to £4000 to instigate care proceedings.
A Social care system in melt down, or better still a system that resembles the dark days of the work house. NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.
