I can see very little change, with reference to the Monroe report, and child protection in general.
Local Authority's are under financial restraints regarding cutbacks, and as reported in various newspapers, vulnerable children will be left at risk because of this.
While Social Work assistants are allowed to carry out initial and core assesments, something they are not qualified to to do, tragedies like Baby Peter will still occur, one a more frequent occurrence.
As we have noted, very little is learned from past serious case reviews and inquiries.
What has been learned from the Butler-Sloss into the events in Cleveland over 25 years ago? ,when nearly 200 children were wrongly taken into care, on the evidence given by Paediatrician Dr Marietta Higgs, stating all children had been sexually abused by their parents, evidence later to be discredited by other profeshionals,to late for some parents, who had their children forcibly adopted.
Until there is more transparency within the family courts, and Social Workers opinions, relating to them thinking that they are the Police and medics, all in one very little will change.
In a recent case PAIN have been advising on a Social Worker suggested that a boy, that had been diagnosed by CAMBS and a psychologist with severe autism, the Social Worker was still adamant that the boys challenging behavior was put down to poor parenting skills.
