MEDIA REQUEST FOR CASES WITHIN THE EAST MIDLANDS

Hi Alison,

Thanks for the chat earlier.
The programme I work for is BBC Inside Out see www.bbc.co.uk/insideout It's a regional current affairs programme aired on BBC 1 at 7.30pm on
Monday. I make films for the East Midlands version. We're currently off
air until September.

I've been reading about cases where there seems to have been a complete lack of accountability of social workers and a blatant abuse of their power. Unfortunately none of
these have been in the area I cover - E. Midlands (Notts, Derbyshire
and Leics.)

I suspect since Baby P councils may be over reacting in terms of taking children into care.

Specifically, I want to find examples where social workers have forcibly removed babies within hours of their birth because of a perceived future threat to their welfare. This may
not be an actual threat, for example, if one of the parents had been
abused as a child social services may feel there's a threat he/she will
go on to be an abuser.

Can you check your contacts to see if you have anyone who's gone through this who would talk to me. At this stage I wouldn't be filming, this would be a confidential conversation
for research purposes. But if they would like to take part in the film,
that would be great.

If this is not possible, I would also be interested to hear from people who have been victims of injustice by social services.

Kind regards,
