Key Issues in Safeguarding Children & Young People

Eyewitness Theatre will be using a blend of theatre and enquiry based learning to examine domestic violence, mental ill-health and substance misuse and the impact these can have on the welfare of children and young people.

Course outline:

An Eyewitness Theatre Training Event.

The day will cover

  • Why are we here?
  • The impact of domestic violence on children and young people
  • The triad of alcohol, substance abuse and mental ill health
  • Stress

Eyewitness Theatre use a blend of theatre and enquiry based learning. They do not use PowerPoint, OHP’s or digital learning techniques. Delegates are not asked to take part in role-play.

At the end of the session delegates will have

  • Accomplished (on a multi-agency level) a number of tasks to help them develop skills to make the best judgments they can to protect a vulnerable child
  • Participated fully in engaging workshops that offer a sound understanding of the principles and the processes required for effective collaboration
  • Worked with a family member/child (portrayed by an actor) to explore the necessity for effective engagement, openness, collaboration, seeking permission, consent and sharing information to achieve realistic outcomes

Who can attend?

This event is for anyone who

  • Is a member of staff, manager or volunteer that works with children, young people and/or families and
  • Works or volunteers in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland and
  • Works or volunteers in the private, voluntary or independent sectors
