Written by Natasha Phillips November 29, 2009

Petition, Petition, Petition....

The family justice system is suffering a great deal...

Of the many symptoms it harbours, none is perhaps more visible than its lack of responsiveness to the myriad consultation papers and constant lobbying by politicians and pressure groups alike.

With gentle determination, families continue to search for signs of life in a listless system that is too weak to function. It… Continue

ADOPTION IS THE HIGHEST PRIORITY STATES BARNADOS

So Brenda Farrell, assistant director of Children’s Services for Barnardos states that adoption should be given a higher priority and then suggests that the kincare clause should be used on a larger scale, a very confusing statement to make.

It looks like the lady wants immediate relatives to have care of the children during Care Proceedings, but then is happy for them to be taken from Grandparents, in the later stages of family court proceedings, when a placement for adoption has been… Continue

OFSTED GIVES DAMMINNG REPORT ON CAFCASS IN GREATER LONDON

Ofsted have given a damming report relating to the greater London area, which covers 33 Local Authorities.

In many cases children and families have to wait six months for a Guardian to be appointed to the Family Court arena,

The lowest possible inadequacy of cafcass is given, which also states that management documentation is out of date.other concerns are that complaints, are not dealt with within the expected timescale.

Private Law cases also is a cause for concern, with… Continue

A REPLY BACK TO MY PAIN COLLEAGUE FROM ED BALLS DEPARTMENT-FAMILY COURTS

Dear Ms Stewart-Taylor

Thank you for your emails of 21 December, addressed to Ed Balls and Ruth Kelly, concerning the secrecy in family courts.

The family courts play a crucial role in protecting the welfare of some of the most vulnerable children in our society.

The Government has included provisions in the current Children, Schools and Families Bill to continue the process of opening up the family courts by broadening the amount of information which can be… Continue

There are a few decent Childrens Panel Solicitors out there, and we have a team of two decent firms, and when they work together, one representing the Mother, and the other representing the Father,Social Services have a hard challenge on their hands, one of the Solicitors team are based in Birmingham, they prove to be a formidable force.

With reference to one of my cases in Coventry, if it wasn't for the professionalism of the Solicitors involved, the siblings would be split up,and placed with… Continue

COURT OF PROTECTION TO BE OPENED UP TO THE MEDIA

One of Britain’s most secret courts is set to be opened up to the media in a move that could boost public confidence after widespread criticism of its workings.

People applying to manage the affairs of elderly or vulnerable relatives have found the court — and, in particular, its… Continue

The premature sexualisation of children and the encouragement of prurient interest in sexual matters at a tender age has already provoked increasing numbers of underage pregnancies (which the… Continue
