The Legal Services Commission have informed Childrens Panel Solicitors and other Family Barristers, that they will cease to fund independent Social Workers, to act as Guardians in Public Law Cases.
The former was brought out in the new Cafcass Guidelines, which was brought in over six weeks ago, to oversee the backlog of cases that have come into the Family Court arena, due to the increase in Care Proceedings, which have been instigated, due to the Local Authority failings resulting in the…

The quality of residential care hit by Local Authority cuts is an absolute disgrace, again this will effect the children that are in in the care system and reside in these homes.
The LA cuts could be down to the alarmingly high amount of Care Proceedings that are being instigated by Social Services, more of the taxpayers money wasted. One Local Authority have already dropped 500 cases regarding Child protection issues via the Family Courts.
The question is should any of…

HARINGEY Council finally apologised today for the catalogue of blunders that left Baby P to die.
But no social workers were sacked or suspended after the apology was dragged out of a senior councillor under huge political pressure.
Liz Santry, the councillor in charge of services for children and young people, said the council was “truly sorry we did not do more to protect” the 17-month-old baby found dead after months of abuse in his own home.
Ms Santry said:…

I applaud the sacking of Mike Wardle the chief executive of the GSCC.
203 unallocated misconduct cases and 21 public conduct cases is a disgrace, i wonder how many children have been left at risk of abuse, because of this mans incompetence?
At last, i cant believe what i am reading, Social Work training is going to be strengthened, which will hopefully raise standards of practice, and wow, holding the profession account for competence as well as conduct.
This…

As we know with all child care cases, it is inevitable that Social Services and Social workers become involved.
Many articles in the press over recent years have levied much criticism at Social Services and the treatment of families. The press cannot report something that isn't true or not have some evidence of fact. Nor can they break laws or violate the children's act. Otherwise, it would result in massive law suite to which a paper can ill afford. Local Authorities have their own…

Re: False allegations made against social workers by parents/carers
By RGS in Social work profession
The CRB contains no details of allegations - only criminal convictions so her CRB should be clear. Not knowing the case, its difficult to comment but the term 'child in need' is used to define children with disabilities, who need additional support etc, so as such it should not be seen as a stick to hit Mum with. A plan for a child in need is a plan set in place to support a…

I really feel sick to the pits of my stomach, State sanctioned Child trafficking.
The money that will feast these party's, will come out of the taxpayer’s purse.
Why this kind of money is not being used to keep children with their natural Parents beggars belief.
The Children’s charity Coram have put into practice with Local Authorities to place newly born babies with prospective adoptive Parents in the early stage of Care Proceedings and placements are being planned before babies…

Concern over new family legal aid fixed fees
Concern over new family legal aid fixed fees
WED 21/10/2009 - The Ministry of Justice and the Legal Services Commission have today published new fee structures for family legal aid that will see hourly rates replaced with fixed fees.
Family lawyers have warned that the new fixed fees are likely to mean a mass exodus of lawyers from family legal aid and undermine access to justice for ordinary families. The number of family…
